The national gemstone of Germany is the Aquamarine, which is a valued gem of ancient lineage. The Romans believed that if the figure of a frog were carved on an aquamarine, it served to reconcile enemies and make them friends. Another Roman legend stated that the stone absorbs the atmosphere of young love: “When blessed and worn, it joins in love, and does great things.” Aquamarine was also considered the most appropriate morning gift to give to a bride by her groom following the consummation of their marriage. The Greeks and the Romans knew the aquamarine as the sailor’s gem, ensuring the safe and prosperous passage across stormy seas. In Medieval times, the stone was thought to reawaken the love of married couples. It was also believed to render soldiers invincible. It was a symbol of happiness and everlasting youth. In the Christian era, the aquamarine was identified with the Apostle, St. Thomas. William Langland’s “The Vision Concerning Piers and the Plowman,” from 1377, mentions the aquamarine as an antidote for poison. This antidote was widely known throughout Europe. Because there was a wide amount of poisonings amongst royalty at the time, the gem was in popular demand just for that purpose. Writers of the middle Ages claimed aquamarine was the most popular and effective of the “oracle” crystals. According to folklore, aquamarine would bring victory in battles and legal disputes. Aquamarine was also used in ceremonies in the belief that it would bring rain when needed, or visit drought upon their enemies. When worn as an amulet, it was believed to bring relief of pain and to make the wearer friendlier, quicken the intellect and cure laziness. The ancient philosopher Pliny paid tribute to this gem of vitality, stating, “the lovely aquamarine, which seems to have come from some mermaid’s treasure house, in the depths of a summer sea, has charms not to be denied.”

Aquamarine encourages the ideal of service to the world and to the development of a humanity attuned to healing. It emits a gentle and compassionate energy, promoting moderation and responsibility for ones' actions. Sterling Silver is composed of .925 pure Silver and plated with a thin layer of pure Silver. Silver tarnishes with prolonged exposure to oxygen, which may quicken if the Silver is near salt water or products containing sulfur. While Sterling Silver beads are of an extremely high quality, they may fade if worn carelessly or scratched deeply.
24k Vermeil Gold
24k Vermeil Gold is plated over .925 Sterling Silver. Using a nickel-free process, the Silver is plated with 1 micron of 18K Gold for strength, and then followed by 2 microns of 24k Gold. Vermeil Gold may show signs of tarnish if left in the open air. While Vermeil Gold beads are of an extremely high quality, they may fade if worn carelessly or scratched deeply.
When Crystal Jewellery Breaks
Owning crystal jewellery or a mala is a lesson in and of its own, of learning to let go and release in order to grow. Scot & Saxon jewellery is intended to be worn on a regular basis, which is another reason why care must be taken to ensure they remain in excellent condition long term. A broken crystal jewellery piece or mala symbolizes a broken cycle in your life. It means you have learned an important lesson or cleared a karmic cycle. You don't 'need' that particular crystal, which resonated with you when you needed it, anymore. A broken crystal jewellery piece or mala is a sign that it's time to bring new intentions into your life as you have outgrown the current one. It is said when crystal jewellery or mala breaks you are not supposed to fix it. Instead, you collect the beads and pieces and place them in a place that is special for you; the crystals still work, so keep them nearby for their energetic benefits. You are now ready for the next step, with new lessons and more karma to clear to continue your personal growth, and it is time to connect with and choose a new crystal. This being said, it is understandable that you may feel compelled to preserve your investment. You may request a re-stringing for $50 if you would like your piece restored.
